These free printable color mixing worksheets show preschool and kindergarten children what happens when two colors are mixed together. The first page is a mixing chart with the six mixes used in the set, such as red and yellow making orange, and children keep it beside them while they work. The ten worksheet pages then ask three different kinds of question, so children are not answering the same thing ten times: color the circle to show the color you get, circle the color that is missing from a mix, and work backwards to find the two colors that made a given color. Working backwards is the part children find hardest and it is where the learning really happens. Mixing colors is often a child’s first experience of a rule that always works, which is the same kind of thinking they will later use in maths. The last page is an answer key.
