Free Word Problems Worksheets for Kindergarten – Add, Subtract

These free printable word problem worksheets take kindergarten children from adding and subtracting numbers on their own to solving little stories about numbers, which is the step most children find hardest. Every problem stays at 10 or under and uses the addition and subtraction facts already practised in our addition, subtraction and make 10 sets. The pages rotate through four tasks three times, so nobody does the same thing twelve pages in a row: adding two groups of pictures and writing the total, taking away the pictures that are crossed out and counting what is left, reading a story and deciding for yourself whether to add or take away, and finally drawing the story and writing the whole number sentence with no pictures given. That third task is the heart of the set. The pictures show only the starting amount, and every question asks how many there are now, so a child cannot pick the sign by hunting for the words in all or left, they have to understand what happened in the story. Answers never fall below 1, so nothing has to be drawn as an empty space, and the order of the answers is mixed on purpose so no page can be finished by guessing a pattern.
