Free Missing Addend Worksheets for Kindergarten – Sums to 20
These free printable missing addend worksheets ask kindergarten and first grade children to find the number that is missing from an addition sentence, such as 3 + ? = 7. The first page shows how to work it out by counting on from the number you can already see. This is harder than ordinary addition because the answer is not at the end, so children cannot simply add the two numbers they can see, and it is the first time many of them meet the idea of an unknown, which is where algebra begins. The blank moves between the first and second position on every page, so children have to read the sentence rather than follow a pattern. The first four pages keep the totals within 10 and the later pages go up to 20. Fingers and counters are fine at this stage. The last page is an answer key. Just download, print, and count on!
